goldendoodle rescue dogs for adoption nc

Start training your puppy the day you bring him home. Even at eight weeks old, he is capable of soaking up everything you can teach him. Don’t wait until he is 6 months old to begin training or you will have a more headstrong dog to deal with. If possible, get him into puppy kindergarten class by the time he is 10 to 12 weeks old, and socialize, socialize, socialize. However, be aware that many puppy training classes require certain vaccines like kennel cough to be up to date, and many veterinarians recommend limited exposure to other dogs and public places until puppy vaccines including rabies, distemper and parvovirus have been completed. In lieu of formal training, you can begin training your puppy at home and socializing him among family and friends until puppy vaccines are completed. Not all inherited conditions are detectable in a growing puppy, and it can be hard to predict whether an animal will be free of these maladies, which is why you must find a reputable breeder who is committed to breeding the healthiest animals possible. They should be able to produce independent certification that the parents of the dog and grandparents, etc. have been screened for genetic defects and deemed healthy for breeding. At a minimum, ask the breeder to show evidence that both of the puppy’s parents have the appropriate certifications from health registries like the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, Canine Eye Registry Foundation, etc. For more information, see the Red Ribbon and Blue Ribbon requirements set by the Goldendoodle Association of North America.  They probably are predisposed to the same diseases as the Golden Retriever and Standard Poodle. These include skin disorders such as ichthyosis any of several generalized skin disorders marked by dryness, roughness and scaling, eye disorders such as progressive retinal atrophy PRA, von Willebrand's disease, elbow dysplasia, hip dysplasia and patellar luxation. Goldendoodles have a tendency to gain weight with age, so owners should monitor their food intake. Overweight dogs have a higher incidence of orthopedic problems. Goldendoodles should be kept active and trim for as long as possible to promote joint and heart health and a long, happy life. Goldendoodle puppies are known for being great companions who are loving and hilarious jokers. They are often very accepting of other dogs, pets, children and the elderly. However, it is important that young children learn to be respectful and gentle with this breed to avoid any issue. Depending on the breeding process he/she may be hypoallergenic due to poodle’s heritage. It is important if you have allergies to talk to your breeder to confirm if your pup will be hypoallergenic. Goldendoodles are generally quite healthy, but can be susceptible to hip dysplasia, cancer and certain genetic disorders.
